Bright colours are nice. But most bikers don't seem to want to stand out. So the BPP chain guides are now also available in black and with a camouflage pattern.

Wow, everything is so colourful here. At the Bike Perfection Parts (BPP) stand, chain guides and chainrings shine in the most dazzling anodised colours. I'm spoilt for choice: does the purple colour suit my bike? Or rather the tree frog green? Oh, maybe I'd prefer black.... "80 per cent of our customers end up asking for the inconspicuous black version," says Deni from BPP. So the chain guides are now available in black with a high-quality lasered camouflage pattern: the Black Line Camo.

Manufactured entirely at the company headquarters in Waiblingen near Stuttgart and the surrounding area, the chain guides make a classy impression. Equipped with an ISCG-05 mount (ISCG-03 for 32 teeth and BB adapter optionally available) and bashguard, they are available for the various chainring sizes. The picture above shows the version for 32 teeth. According to the manufacturer, the impact protection then protrudes by four millimetres.

The SL version shown for all-mountain and enduro riders has short lateral guide rails at the top, which allow the chain to rotate largely freely without generating frictional resistance. There is no lower guide, which reduces the weight of the chain to 75 grams (32 teeth). The single-speed chain guide is available from just under 120 euros.

Pilots who need a little more guidance should look for the version with a slider at the top or the downhill models with an additional slider underneath. Instead of moving parts such as pivoting rollers, all chain guides use replaceable plastic sliders to minimise maintenance. BPP also offers chain guides for 2x and 3x drivetrains with and without bashguard.

All prices and delivery times can be found in the BPP online shop

Sebastian Brust was born in 1979 and was originally socialised on his grandmother's folding bike, but has mainly been riding studded tyres since his fifth birthday. Loves all kinds of bikes - and merging with nature. Believes that disc brakes are much safer today than they were 15 years ago and thinks he has helped with his brake and pad tests. However, the trained vehicle technology engineer very much regrets that the bicycle industry is orientating itself on what he considers to be the wrong ideals of the car industry. At BIKE, he corrects, produces and organises digital content on the website.
