5 eco oils for MTB chains in laboratory test
Oils extend the service life of the chain and improve the drive. Modern eco-oils lubricate as well as the toxic stuff of the past and ease the eco-conscience. Five oils in the lab test.

We subjected all oils to an elaborate laboratory test to determine creep resistance, pressure resistance and corrosion protection. Here are the test results:

PEDRO'S "ChainJ" - 100 ml

The "ChainJ" shines with very good creeping properties. Although the very fluid eco-oil lubricates well, it washes off easily. The corrosion protection suffers as a result. It is also not very pressure-resistant and attracts a lot of dirt.

Price: 8,75 Euro

JUDGMENT: ★★★★✩✩ (4 out of max. 6 stars)

ROHLOFF "Special Lubricant" - 50 ml

Rohloff chain oil performs very well in almost all categories. It offers good corrosion protection, attracts little dirt and efficiently minimises chain wear. Only the creeping ability could be better.

Price: 5,70 Euro

HOLMENKOL "Natural Bike Lube" - 50 ml

Despite its viscosity, the "Natural Bike Lube" impresses with its very good creeping properties and provides an effective protective film on the chain. The Holmenkol oil repels dirt, but the lubricating film breaks off a little early.

BIOTECH "Chain Lube" - 100 ml

How do you like this article?

The "Chain Lube" was the only chain oil in the test to be awarded the "Blue Angel" environmental seal. It is very fluid, lubricates well and offers effective corrosion protection. The dirt repellence could be better.

Price: 9,90 Euro

JUDGMENT: ★★★★★✩ (5 out of max. 6 stars)

MUC-OFF "Wet Lube" - 50 ml

The "Wet Lube" shines with the best lubricity. Corrosion protection and creep resistance are also impressive. However, the oil attracts a lot of dirt. The "Try Lube" from Muc-Off performs better, but offers less corrosion protection.

Price: 4,99 Euro
