If you want to be self-sufficient on road trips or on holiday with your e-bike, you need a power station with a car quick-charging function to recharge the energy storage system while you are riding. However, not all systems generate enough charging power to recharge the power station in a reasonable amount of time. In this article, we show you all the models that meet the requirements of e-bikers.

Topics in this article

First of all: the basic problem

Anyone embarking on a road trip with an e-bike faces a simple problem: empty every day, reliant on electricity every day. Shore power from the campsite is the simplest solution - but it takes away exactly the freedom you are looking for on a road trip. A large power station is the first step towards independence.

The second is a quick-charging function in which the Powerstation draws the strong currents from the car's alternator: depending on the model, up to 1000 watts of charging power is possible while driving. This means that two hours of travelling can be enough, and a correspondingly large Powerstation is full enough to charge two e-bikes.

DJI Power 2000/1000 + 1 kW charger

DJI is known for its drones and cameras - but with the Power series, the company has made serious inroads into the power station business, and with some vigour. The Power 2000 packs 2048 Wh into a surprisingly compact housing and delivers 3000 watts of continuous power - enough to supply almost any household appliance without complaint.

Using mains power, it is back up to 80 per cent in just 45 minutes; using a 1 kW car charger, it reaches the same level in around 75 minutes - provided the alternator generates enough power. Important: Hybrid and electric vehicles are not compatible with the DJI fast charger because their alternator operation works differently to that of conventional combustion engines.

What makes the Power 2000 really interesting is its ecosystem: up to ten expansion batteries can be connected, increasing the total capacity to up to 22,528 Wh - enough for days of power supply in the event of a blackout. Added to this is the app control without an additional dongle and an LFP cell chemistry that, according to DJI, lasts up to 4,000 charging cycles with 80 per cent capacity - that corresponds to around ten years of daily operation.

The smaller Power 1000 (1024 Wh) follows the same system, charges just as quickly and costs significantly less at 918 euros. Those who operate DJI drones will benefit twice over: compatible batteries from the Mavic 3, Air 3 and Matrice 4 series can be charged directly from the Powerstation using a quick-charging cable. Price: 1368 euros (Power 2000) / 918 euros (Power 1000) >> available here.

DJI Power 1000 Mini + integrated 400 W car charger

The Power 1000 Mini is DJI's latest model - and at the same time a direct attack on the main argument against power stations: the weight. At 11.5 kg and a housing measuring 314 × 212 × 216 mm, the Mini weighs just half as much as the original Power 1000, with an almost identical capacity of 1008 Wh.

What sets it apart from all other models in the comparison: The car charger is already integrated - no additional charger, no additional cable. The only drawback is that the integrated car charger only charges at 400 watts instead of 1000 watts. The integrated quick charger fully charges the power station in around 160 minutes, which means that if you are travelling to the campsite for several hours, you can arrive and get started straight away.

An MPPT solar charger for up to 400 watts of input power is also integrated - eliminating the need for an external solar adapter. In fast recharge mode, the Mini charges to 80 per cent in 58 minutes and fully in 75 minutes when connected to the mains. The built-in, extendable USB-C cable with 100 watts rounds off the "just pack and go" concept.

The AC output provides 1000 watts continuously and supports selected 1200 watt appliances for short periods - coffee machines, compact microwaves, projectors, camping coolers. LFP cells ensure the usual longevity of up to 4000 cycles. For just under 630 euros, the Power 1000 Mini is the complete fast-charging package for anyone who wants to travel light on road trips and camping, but still wants to recharge quickly. Price: 628 Euro >> available here.

Bluetti Apex 300 + Charger One

The Bluetti Apex 300 is in a different league. Powered by second-generation automotive LFP cells, the system achieves over 6000 charging cycles at 80 per cent capacity and is designed for a service life of up to 17 years - double what most competitors offer.

The basic capacity of 2764.8 Wh can be expanded modularly: Up to three units and 18 expansion batteries can be combined, enabling up to 11.52 kW output power and 58 kWh total capacity. The AC output of 3840 watts - with power-lifting mode up to 7680 watts for short periods for pure resistance loads - is the highest continuous output of all five systems in this comparison.

Vehicle charging works via the separately available Charger One, which draws up to 560 watts from the alternator. Special feature: The Apex 300 supports simultaneous 120V/240V output and thus enables the simultaneous operation of refrigerators, air conditioners and even EV chargers - something that portable power stations in this class can rarely do. The UPS system switches without measurable delay (0 ms) and the magnetic core transformer reduces the no-load consumption to just 20 watts. In turbo mode, the Apex 300 is charged to 80 per cent in around 45 minutes. At around 36 kg and a price of 2250 euros for the Charger-One combination, this is not a product for spontaneous trips - but for anyone looking for serious backup capabilities or a complete power supply for their motorhome, the Bluetti sets the standard. Price: 2250 euros >> available here at a reduced price.

EcoFlow Delta Pro + 800 W charger

The Delta Pro is EcoFlow's flagship power station - and with a capacity of 3600 Wh, it has the largest energy reserve of all five models in this comparison. The AC output is 3600 watts, can be extended to up to 4500 watts for individual devices using X-Boost technology and can be scaled up to 7200 watts at 240 volts by operating two Delta Pro units in parallel.

Car charging works via the 800-watt alternator charger from EcoFlow - a stand-alone device that connects directly to the alternator, not to the usual 12-volt socket. The 800 W charger utilises the excess energy from the vehicle's alternator and therefore charges eight times faster than a conventional cigarette lighter socket.

For the Delta Pro with its large capacity, this means around 4.8 hours driving time for a full charge. With a combined AC, solar and generator feed, it achieves a charging speed of up to 6500 watts. The LFP battery lasts for over 6500 cycles and therefore around ten years of daily use. At around 45 kg, the Delta Pro is a clear stand-alone solution - the rolling handle makes it easy to transport, but you won't be carrying it spontaneously. 2117 euros for the combi package with 800 W charger is a convincing offer for this performance class. Price: 2117 Euro >> available here.

EcoFlow Delta 2 Max + 500 W charger

The Delta 2 Max hits the sweet spot between portability and serious capacity. At 2048 Wh, it lies exactly in the middle between the compact Delta 2 (1024 Wh) and the large Delta Pro (3600 Wh) - and at around 24 kg, it still remains within the weight range that can be handled without a trolley. The AC output of 2400 watts supplies all standard consumers, while in X-Boost mode EcoFlow pushes the limit up to 3400 watts for short-term high-load devices.

Charging the car is handled by the 500-watt alternator charger - the smaller sibling of the 800-watt charger, which charges five times faster than a conventional cigarette lighter socket and refills 1 kWh in around 2.1 hours of driving time. For the 2048 Wh of the Delta 2 Max, this means around four hours of driving until fully charged - realistic for long cross-country stages, not for short trips.

An important advantage over the DJI chargers: according to the manufacturer, the EcoFlow 500 W charger is also compatible with hybrid vehicles and range extender models. It also functions as a 3-in-1 device: in addition to charging the power station, it maintains the vehicle starter battery in trickle charge mode and acts as a jump starter in an emergency.

The LFP battery lasts for 3000 full charging cycles at 80 per cent capacity - that corresponds to around ten years of daily use. If you need more storage, you can plug in up to two Smart Extra batteries for a total capacity of 6144 Wh.

With a combined AC and solar power supply of up to 1000 watts, the Delta 2 Max reaches the 80 per cent mark in just 43 minutes. Quiet operation at 30 decibels, a sophisticated app ecosystem and 15 output ports round off the package. The Red Dot Design Award 2023 included. For 1448 euros, you get perhaps the most balanced system of the entire comparison - powerful enough for the motorhome, light enough for the camping boot.

Conclusion Model overview Powerstations

The market for power stations with a genuine fast car charging function is manageable - but well-sorted. DJI and Bluetti dominate for e-bikers on road trips. DJI scores with portability and charging power. The Bluetti is suitable for anyone who not only wants to power their e-bike, but possibly also the entire electrical system of their motorhome with the power station. The highest capacity (without additional battery) is available from EcoFlow. - Max Fuchs, BIKE editor
