4 mudguards for mountain bikes in comparison
Bulky MTB mudguards for the fork crown are a thing of the past. Today, small mudguards nestle inconspicuously around the front tyre. Four models in the BIKE test.

Mudguards are the inconspicuous but reliable alternative to the classic mudguard for mountain bikers who want to protect themselves from mud and splash water. Here is an overview of our four test candidates:

SKS Flap Guard Design

Price: 9,99 Euro
Weight: 45 gram

Because the Flap Guard from SKS Germany has to be bent into shape first, mounting is a little fiddly. In the end, however, it sits securely on the triple clamp with four cable ties and fits almost every model. The flap guard can also be fitted to the rear triangle as an option. The extended front keeps splash water well away from the face. However, the occasional mud block does slip through the mini mudguard. Dirt is also kept away from the fork seals thanks to its design.

Mudhugger Front Race Long

Price: 29,95 Euro
Weight: 80 gram

The Mudhugger is larger and more robust than most other mudguards on the market and is correspondingly heavy. The pre-moulded fender can be securely fastened to the fork with six cable ties. The front end comes quite close to the tyre, but still leaves enough space for the thick mud pack. Thanks to its length, the Mudhugger reliably keeps dirt away from the body and also offers a certain degree of protection for the legs and upper body. The look is a matter of taste, but the function is fully convincing.

Cube LATZZ Enduro

Price: 9,95 Euro
Weight: 19 gram

The Neoprene bib from Cube can be attached to the suspension fork particularly quickly and, above all, without tools. This means that it can be pulled out of the rucksack during a tour if the weather changes unexpectedly. The stretchy protector keeps the field of vision clean. Nevertheless, mud splashes still find their way into your face. The fork seals and even the legs remain fully exposed to the mud. The Cube Latzz is available in three lengths and fits cross-country to downhill forks.

Rock Guardz Mudguardz PG350

Price: 19,99 Pounds
Weight: 60 gram

The 33 centimetre long front fender protrudes particularly far forwards under the triple clamp. Accordingly, the PG350 protects the face from mud pimples. Even coarse-tread tyres fit easily under the robust plastic protector. Fitting the pre-moulded Rock Guardsz PG350 is child's play. The top is supported by a small hump on the fork bridge. This keeps the PG350 firmly in place, even on the bumpiest of descents. The dust seals on the fork are reliably protected, the upper body less so.
