The fact that the Cross-Country and Downhill MTB World Cups share a race calendar with the UCI is nothing new. Due to the Cooperation between the UCI and Warner Bros. Discovery Sports (including Eurosport, GCN, GMBN), the race series previously known as the Enduro World Series (EWS) will also have a place on the UCI race calendar next year. There will therefore be Enduro races (EDR) at World Cup level. The UCI is thus upgrading the global enduro racing series and wants to bring the three main formats in mountain bike racing closer together and promote the growth of MTB racing. Until now, the EWS had its own calendar and was separate from the World Cup stages in cross country and downhill. But this is just the beginning. The e-mountain bike and MTB marathon disciplines are also to be more closely integrated. The UCI has shown that this is not just a plan for the future, but will be implemented as quickly as possible with its final official UCI Mountain Bike World Cup calendar for 2023, which was published at the end of 2022. MTB marathon races (XCM) and E-Enduro races (EDR-E) are also included for the first time.

The new UCI Mountain Bike World Cup 2023 will kick off with the EWR stop in Tasmania. Alongside Derby, Maydena is a brand new venue for the most important enduro racing series. The first Cross-Country World Cup in 2023 was also due to make its debut with Valkenburg in the Netherlands. However, this fell through and the 2023 Cross-Country World Cup will now start in Nove Mesto in the Czech Republic. In addition to short track competitions (XCC) and Olympic cross country (XCO), a marathon race (XCM) will also be held there. It has been known for some time that there will be no Mountain Bike World Cup in Germany in 2023. The classic race in the Bullentäle in Albstadt is missing from the 2023 World Cup calendar, as is the downhill stop in Fort William - where, however the 2023 World Cycling Championships in Glasgow in August instead.
Also new: from 2023, the Mountain Bike World Cup will no longer be broadcast on Red Bull TV, but by Discovery Sports on its various (pay) platforms. The contract between the UCI and Discovery Sports covers the period from 2023 to 2030 and includes the organisation, media production and broadcasting as well as promotion of the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup.
One of the highlights of the 2023 UCI Mountain Bike World Cup calendar is the stop in the French Alps in mid-September, where all the major mountain bike race formats will come together for the first time in the history of the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup. The Cross Country Olympic (XCO), Cross Country Short Track (XCC) and Downhill (DHI) competitions will take place in Les Gets, while the MTB Marathon (XCM), Enduro (EDR) and E-Enduro (EDR-E) competitions will be held in Châtel and Morzine. Over ten days, including two weekends (from 7 to 17 September 2023), the entire world mountain bike community will come together in a festival atmosphere to celebrate the Outstanding World Cup atmosphere at Les Gets 2022 once again.
June 2023 is packed with racing action. The EWS will be held in Finale Ligure, while the World Cup racers will be racing in Lenzerheide, Switzerland. The Triple World Cup starts a week later in Leogang. In 2023, cross-country riders, downhillers and enduro racers will come together at the same location for the first time in history. The enduro riders will then travel on to Val di Fassa, while the XC and DH riders will head to Val di Sole. An extensive break is planned for July and August, before heading to the MTB World Championships 2023 to Glasgow in Scotland (3-13 August). The next destination for cross country and downhill is Vallnord in Andorra and then all disciplines will meet again in France before the showdown across the Atlantic in the USA and the World Cup final in Canada.
UCI President David Lappartient sees the deal with Discovery Sports and the expansion of the UCI mountain bike racing calendar as a great opportunity for mountain bike racing and says:
"The release of the 2023 UCI Mountain Bike World Cup and Enduro World Series calendar marks a major step forward in our work to modernise mountain biking, which is one of our five Olympic disciplines. With the integration of Enduro, and soon Cross Country Marathon and E-Mountainbike Enduro into the calendar, the events will take on a new look and bring even more athletes and fans together. We are also pleased about the new hosts for some rounds. The partnership between the UCI and Warner Bros. Discovery will significantly raise the international profile of mountain biking and enable the sport to continue to grow globally."
The new calendar includes the XCM and EDR-E rounds: two formats that will have UCI Mountain Bike World Cup status for the first time from 2023. The XCM calendar will start in Nove Mesto in the Czech Republic. The programme also includes Finale Ligure (Italy), Chatel/Morzine (France) and Snowshoe (USA). The E-Enduro racers will join the marathon pros for the season opener in Finale Ligure before travelling on to Leogang in Austria. They will then head to Italy for the third round in Val di Fassa in Trentino before travelling to France for the final rounds. The fourth round will take place in Loudenvielle in the Pyrenees, and the E-Enduro race series will conclude in Chatel/Morzine.
