"Look at the time!"
FREERIDE: Your time as a DH presenter is over. Are you sad!
Rob Warner: Very sad. I became melancholy in Andorra because I knew that I didn't have many races left. At some point I hid my feelings because I was overcome with melancholy. I have to draw a line under it now and look to the future.
Do you get "You-will-miss-us"-messages?
All the time. It touches me that my moderation means so much to people. On the other hand, it only made it harder to say goodbye. The sport is spectacular. Really spectacular. So maybe it's not a bad time to leave. So, if it is, it's now.
What are you doing now? Rumour has it that the Red Bull Hardline is being expanded into a series.
I'm staying with Red Bull and can't give anything away. Just this much: it has to do with cross-country and downhill racing, and I'll be pretty busy.
Nevertheless: no more "look at the time". Who will host the World Cup now?
I'm often asked that, but I don't know.

You enjoy cult status with a large fan community. Did Discovery try to recruit you?
There were some talks. It was a panic reaction, because at the time nobody knew what would happen next, not even Red Bull. So I commented on a pilot event as a test in the Eurosport studios. After that, I heard nothing more, even when I enquired - no reply.
When you look back, what shining moment comes to mind?
Of course Sam Hill's crash at the 2008 World Championship. I had the feeling that Sam Hill was travelling down the hill in fast motion. His lead was huge and then he crashed on the last corner. What a tragedy! Or Danny Hart's rain run in Champery. My line from back then is often quoted: "How can Danny Hart sit down with balls that big." (Laughs).
How do the drivers react to your exit?
Many people got in touch. I was at an after-race party when Jolanda Neff came up to me. She offered me the chance to coach her team. The Olympic champion is offering me a job, how cool is that! Jolanda has found me a job so that I can continue to be part of the World Cup. So sweet!
Legendary descents, legendary moderation: Here are four highlights of downhill history commented by Rob Warner.
World Championships 2008 in Val di Sole. Sam Hill has the run of his life. Eleven seconds ahead, then he crashes on the last bend. Rob Warner: "How can you live with that?"
World Championship 2011 in Champery. Danny Hart speeds through the rain and mud as if on rails. Commentator Rob Warner freaks out: "Stay on your bike, Danny. This is insane. Look at that whip!"
World Cup 2015 in Leogang. Aaron Gwin loses the chain right after the start and still wins. Rob Warner shouts: "Aaron Gwin does the impossible!"
2021 World Championships in Val di Sole. Greg Minnaar becomes world champion at the age of 39, 18 years after his first title. Rob Warner freaks out: "How on earth does he do that? My good-ness. Minnaar goes fastest!"
