Next weekend, Nino Schurter (SUI) will get another chance at his record victory after the Swiss rider narrowly missed out on it in Albstadt. If he wins the World Cup race in Nove Mesto, nobody will have collected more World Cup victories. The third World Cup of the season takes place in Nove Mesto in the Czech Republic. After Tom Pidcock (GBR) won the World Cup in the Czech Republic last year and also took victory on his comeback last weekend in Albstadt, his goal is clear: another victory in the Czech Republic. The technically demanding course has produced many different winners in the past, but nobody has won as often as Nino Schurter. So it will be exciting.
In recent years, the women's podium has been firmly in French hands. Loana Lecomte (FRA) and Pauline Ferrand-Prévot (FRA) have shared first and second place between them. This year, however, the Australian and overall World Cup leader Rebecca "Bec" McConnell could get in the way of the French supremacy. She not only won the last two XCO races in Petropolis and Albstadt, but also the last short track race. It will be exciting to see who wins the race in the Czech Republic.
"Albstadt is an extremely physical course that shows no mercy if you're not at 100 per cent. It's also great to see that the work on my technique during the off-season is paying off and that I feel much better and more confident, especially in the downhill sections. I can't wait to see how it goes on the rather rugged course in Nove Mesto, where I still have a score to settle." - Pauline Ferrand-Prévot
