In October 2020, the UCI announced the dates for the Mercedes-Benz Mountain Bike World Cup for 2021 published. The calendar was hardly surprising. The downhillers were actually due to start at the end of April in Maribor, Slovenia. However, due to the ongoing Covid 19 pandemic, the Race weekend in Slovenia postponed to 14/15 August. On 8/9 May 2021, the cross-country racers are set to take part in the most important MTB race series in Albstadt on the Swabian Alb The organisers and the UCI currently intend to stick to this decision. At the beginning of April, it was announced that the World Cup in Albstadt would take place without spectators. The current Corona Ordinance of the state of Baden-Württemberg allows the UCI MTB World Cup to be organised as a top-level and professional sporting event. However, the regulation excludes spectators from this event. "It is not easy for us to do without a fantastic audience that creates a unique atmosphere in the Bullentäle year after year and spurs the athletes on to top performances," says Mayor Klaus Konzelmann. In addition, the Organisers of the legendary downhill stop in Fort William announced that the race in Scotland in May 2021 will not take place. It is not yet clear whether the 2021 Downhill World Cup in Fort William will be held at a later date or cancelled completely.
There will also be four double World Cups this season: Leogang, Les Gets, Lenzerheide and the final overseas stop in Snowshoe (USA).
The MTB World Championships 2021 will take place from 25-29 August in the Italian Val di Sole instead.
