In 2018 and 2019, the Frenchman defeated Amaury Pierron the course in the Highlands as the fastest. There was no World Cup race in Fort William in the coronavirus-stricken 2020 season and last year. In 2022, the fastest riders in the world will return to compete in the second World Cup race of the season.
Amaury Pierron has already won the first race in Lourdes and is therefore the favourite going into the upcoming race weekend. But not only the seven-time Fort William winner and GOAT (Greatest of All Time) of the Downhill Greg Minaar (RSA), but also the 2021 World Cup winner, Loic Bruni (FRA), could be dangerous for Pierron. The British Danny Hart and Laurie Greenland are also hot for a win and have recently claimed podium finishes at the second stop of the British Championships. It's going to be exciting.
The local heroine Tahnée Seagrave will not be competing in Fort William next weekend. The reason for this is a fall in training that left her with a concussion, the consequences of which she is still suffering from. Myriam Nicole crashed during training in Lourdes a few weeks ago and also suffered a concussion. According to her own statements, she no longer has any complaints and wants to compete in Scotland.
In addition to the overall leader Nicole, other riders are also gunning for victory. The Austrian Vali Höll won the overall standings last year and wants to build on that success this year. But the German downhill sensation Nina Hoffmann is a regular podium finisher and recently won the second race of the British Downhill Championships on the track in Fort William. This makes her a strong favourite to win in Scotland.
The women's elite final starts on Sunday, 21 May, at 13:30. The men's elite final starts one hour later at 2.30 pm. RedBull TV broadcasts both races on Sunday in the livestream.
