No, this has absolutely nothing to do with rappers from Offenbach. Chabos are a "Japanese breed of bantam chicken" (Wikipedia) and are the namesake for the latest addition to the custom forge Huhn Cycles from the Fichtelgebirge. The sustainable frame made from recycled steel provides a delicate look, while the futuristic carbon parts from Bike Ahead and the Intend suspension give the bike a modern look. In combination with the chic pink finish, the Chabo particularly impressed the jury in the MTB category this year and was voted the best mountain bike at the trade fair.
As a frame-building fan and tinkerer, Ralf Holleis began welding the first Huhn frames in his shed in 2011. With small series ranging from hand-welded steel to titanium from the 3D printer, the custom brand from the Fichtelgebirge has repeatedly caused a stir. For example with the Giant jersey with a huge 36 inches last year (here everything about this bike). For the new Chabo, Holleis has now enlisted the support of BFE Fahrradbau from Berlin and wants to be able to offer the bike in a somewhat larger small series.
The most important key data: The four-link rear suspension with flexing seat stays manages 120 or 108 millimetres of travel depending on the shock size and is designed for 29-inch wheels. Ralf built up his Chabo for the Bespoked trade fair as a trail bike with a 130 mm fork. The parts, from the one-piece carbon wheels to the Intend fork, reflect the look of the frame's pink ceramic coating. If you want to own a Chabo yourself, you will have to budget € 3200 for the frame and be patient. The new chickens should be available from the beginning of 2025.
