The German Cycling Federation (BDR) has submitted its nominations for the mountain bike races at the Olympic Games in Tokyo 2021 announced. The four riders received their final tickets from the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB) on 29 June, which, as expected, adopted the recommendations of the professional associations.
For the men, the BDR has opted for the German Cross-Country Champion Manuel Fumic, who will be competing in his fifth Olympic Games in Japan. After this season, the 39-year-old wants to end his career after 20 years of racing.
By contrast, the nomination of Maximilian Brandlwho wore the champion's jersey in 2019 and 2020 and is currently the best-placed German in the UCI rankings in 26th place. Brandl is a German hopeful for the Olympics and can be expected to finish in the top 10.
However, the 24-year-old Lexware rider will be getting a taste of the Olympic air for the first time. The same applies to the two mountain bikers Elisabeth Brandau and Ronja Eibl (21), who will both be making their Olympic debut in Tokyo.
