BIKE reader Holger has noticed play between the stanchions and fork tubes on two Fox 32 F120 forks: "Normally an unmistakable sign that the guide sleeves in the fork tubes are worn," Holger believes. "The one-sided play is unusual. In addition, the bikes have a maximum of 1000 kilometres behind them with beginners who have hardly used the suspension travel. Is this a warranty case, as the bikes were purchased in July 2014?"
Answer from Chris Trojer, Fox Marketing
"You can check whether a suspension fork has too much play in the bushings as follows: Bend over the handlebars with your upper body and compress the fork by approx. 30 % with your own body weight. Then clamp the fingertip of your thumb between the stanchion and fork bridge. If you now pull the front brake and move the bike forwards and backwards, you should not feel any "pinching" at the fingertip. If this is the case, it may be necessary to check/replace the guide bushes.
If a customer has the impression that their Fox product is affected by a warranty claim (the warranty is legally valid for two years from the date of purchase), they can contact Fox Germany directly. An important document that must be sent in with the product is a copy of the proof of purchase with the date. As a first step, however, I always recommend a short phone call to the technical hotline, which usually clarifies the issue - even without sending it in."
