Can you grease carbon seat posts?

No, grease is taboo on carbon seat posts. The grease on the post reduces the static friction of the post in the seat tube. You would have to use more force to clamp the saddle. This can lead to damage to the seat post. Some greases contain acids that can attack the epoxy resin of the carbon compound. This may cause the seat post to break. A fitting tip: Before fitting the seat post, use a reamer to remove any edges in the seat tube and sand the top edge of the seat tube round. Aluminium chips or protruding edges can scratch the surface of the carbon seatpost and create a predetermined breaking point. Completely remove old grease from the seat tube. If you adjust the height of the seatpost, do not twist it back and forth, but only pull the seatpost straight up out of the seat tube. (Photo: Daniel Simon)
