Scott Speedster Gravel 40

The 2021 "Speedster Gravel 40" model from Scott is a versatile gravel bike that stands out for its robust construction and well-thought-out features. The bike’s frame is made from Speedster Gravel Disc, a double-butted 6061 aluminium alloy that ensures high durability and low weight. The Endurance geometry and integrated head tube help ensure that the bike offers a comfortable and stable ride both over long distances and off-road. Weighing in at 10 kg, the Speedster Gravel 40 is light enough to ensure good performance without compromising on robustness.

The bike’s braking system consists of Shimano BR-RS305 mechanical disc brakes, complemented by a Shimano SM-RT64 160mm front brake disc. This combination ensures reliable braking performance in a variety of conditions. Gear changes are handled by the Shimano Tiagra RD-4700-GS with 20 speeds, whilst the Shimano Tiagra ST-4700 Dual Control shifters ensure precise and easy gear selection. The front derailleur is also a Shimano Tiagra FD-4700, which further optimises shifting performance.

The bike’s fork is a Speedster Carbon Disc with a 1 1/8" to 1 1/4" carbon steerer tube, which helps to reduce weight whilst increasing stiffness. The bottom bracket is a Shimano BB-RS500-PB, whilst the crankset consists of a Shimano Tiagra FC-4700 Hyperdrive with 50x34 teeth. The cassette is a Shimano CS-HG500 with 10 speeds and a range of 11–32 teeth, offering a wide gear ratio range. Power is transmitted via a KMC X10 chain.

The bike’s cockpit features a Syncros Creston 2.0 Compact handlebar with a diameter of 31.8 mm and a JD ST123A Alloy stem with four bolts, also with a diameter of 31.8 mm. The headset consists of integrated steel caps, which contribute to the bike’s durability. The rims are Syncros Race 24 Disc with 28 spokes at the front and rear, combined with Schwalbe G-One Allround tyres in size 700x35C, which ensure good grip and comfort. The hubs are Formula Team II CL Disc with 28 holes at the front and rear, and the spokes are SHA-DAR Black with a diameter of 2mm.

The saddle is a Syncros Tofino Regular 2.5, which ensures comfort on long rides, and the seatpost is a Syncros RR2.5 measuring 27.2/350mm. Overall, the Scott Speedster Gravel 40 offers excellent value for money at €1,299 and is an excellent choice for riders looking for a reliable and versatile gravel bike.
