Hercules Futura Compact R8

The 2022 Hercules Futura Compact R8 is a versatile e-bike that stands out for its compact design and high-quality features. Priced at 3199 EUR, it offers a solid combination of performance and functionality. The frame is made of aluminium (AL 6061) and features a low step-through, which makes getting on and off the bike more comfortable. The maximum load capacity is 135 kg, whilst the bike itself weighs 25 kg.

Reliable braking performance is provided by Shimano MT200 hydraulic disc brakes, combined with Shimano BL-MT201 brake levers. The front brake disc measures 180 mm and is a Shimano SM-RT10. Gear changes are operated via a Shimano Revoshifter, whilst the rigid aluminium fork, with a diameter of 1.5", ensures stability.

The lighting system comprises a HERCULES FH 40 LED front light with a brightness of up to 40 lux, as well as a Busch & Müller 2C LED rear light mounted on the luggage rack, which ensures good visibility in traffic. Other features include Wellgo pedals, an FSA CK-220 crankset and a Shimano 20T sprocket. Power is transmitted via a KMC Z1EHX chain.

The handlebars are Kalloy HB-TR-2 with a diameter of 31.8 mm and a 25° back-bend angle, complemented by ergonomic grips with integrated clamps. The Satori UP2+ stem is adjustable and features an ‘All Up’ height adjustment system, allowing for personalised customisation. The headset is integrated, contributing to a clean, uncluttered look.

The Futura Compact R8 is fitted with DDM-1 rims and Schwalbe Big Ben Performance tyres, which ensure a comfortable ride. The hubs are from Shimano; the front hub features a quick-release mechanism and Centre Lock, whilst the rear hub offers a Shimano Nexus 8-speed gear system with a coaster brake. Black Niro spokes complete the wheelset.

The Selle Royal LookIn Relaxed saddle offers comfort on longer rides, whilst the Kalloy SP-DC1 aluminium seatpost provides additional stability. Mudguards from SKS and a Horn Catena 18 chain guard offer protection against dirt and wet conditions. A Standwell kickstand ensures the bike stands securely when parked.

An ABUS battery lock with a Plus cylinder provides security, whilst the i-Rack system carrier with a spring-loaded flap makes it easier to carry luggage. At the heart of the e-bike is the third-generation Active Plus motor, delivering 250 watts of power and 50 Nm of torque. The Bosch standard battery, with a capacity of 500 Wh, ensures sufficient range, whilst the Bosch Intuvia display makes operation straightforward. The 2A charger completes the package. With a reach of 420 mm and a stack of 623 mm, the Futura Compact R8 offers balanced geometry for comfortable riding in urban environments.
