Hercules Futura Compact R5

The “Futura Compact R5” model from Hercules, launched in 2023, is a versatile e-bike characterised by its compact design and high-quality features. The bike’s frame is made from eCompact R10 series aluminium (AL 6061) and provides a solid foundation with a maximum load capacity of 135 kg. The bike itself weighs 25 kg and, at a price of 4099 EUR, is positioned in the mid-range price segment.

Safe braking is ensured by the Tektro hydraulic disc brake system, comprising the T-390 models for the front and rear brakes. The brake levers are also from Tektro and ensure reliable control. The front brake disc measures 180 mm, whilst the rear one is 160 mm. In addition, the bike is fitted with a coaster brake, which offers added convenience.

The Futura Compact R5’s gear system consists of a Shimano Nexus 5-speed hub with a coaster brake, operated via a Shimano Revoshifter. This system allows for easy and effective shifting between the five available gears. The rigid aluminium fork ensures direct steering and stability.

The bike is lit by the Hercules FS-50 LED front light, which provides up to 50 lux, and the Busch & Müller Toplight 2C LED rear light. These lighting components ensure good visibility and visibility of the rider in the dark. The specification is complemented by Wellgo pedals, an FSA CK-220 crankset and a Gates CDX 28T sprocket.

The handlebars are Kalloy HB-TR-2 with a 25° backsweep, whilst the grips are ergonomically designed and feature an integrated clamp. The stem is an adjustable Zecure AllUp + Up2+ with 150 mm of height adjustment. The Limotec S1 seatpost offers 50 mm of travel and contributes to riding comfort, together with the Selle Royal LookIn Relaxed saddle.

Additional protection and functionality are provided by SKS plastic mudguards, a Gates protective ring as a chain guard, and a Standwell rear stand. The Monkey Load luggage rack is a system rack with a spring-loaded flap, ideal for carrying luggage.

The bike is powered by a Performance Cruise Smart System GEN3 motor with an output of 250 watts and a torque of 75 Nm. The Bosch PowerPack battery has a capacity of 545 Wh, ensuring sufficient range. The Bosch Intuvia 100 display offers simple operation and an overview of all relevant ride data. The Bosch charger delivers a charging current of 2 A.

The bike’s geometry features a seat tube length of 490 mm, a head tube angle of 72 degrees and a seat tube angle of 73 degrees. The wheelbase is 1149 mm, which contributes to the bike’s stability. Overall, the Hercules Futura Compact R5 offers a balanced combination of performance, comfort and functionality for everyday use and longer rides.
