Hercules Futura Compact F8

The "Futura Compact F8" model from Hercules, launched in 2022, is a versatile and comfortable e-bike optimised for urban use. Priced at 3,199 EUR, the bike offers a solid range of features and modern technology. The frame is made of aluminium, specifically an AL 6061 alloy, and features a low step-through design that makes getting on and off the bike easier. The maximum load capacity is 135 kg, whilst the bike itself weighs 25 kg.

Braking performance is provided by Shimano hydraulic disc brakes – specifically the MT200 model – complemented by Shimano BL-MT201 brake levers. The front brake disc has a diameter of 180 mm (Shimano SM-RT10), ensuring reliable deceleration. The fork is rigid and is also made of aluminium with a diameter of 1.5 inches. The gears are operated via a Shimano Revoshifter, which works in conjunction with the Shimano Nexus 8-speed hub on the rear wheel.

In terms of lighting, the Futura Compact F8 is fitted with a HERCULES FH 40 LED front light, which provides up to 40 lux of brightness, as well as a Busch & Müller 2C LED rear light on the luggage rack. The pedals are by Wellgo, whilst the crankset is by FSA (model CK-220). The sprocket has 20 teeth and the drivetrain uses a KMC Z1EHX chain.

The handlebars are Kalloy HB-TR-2 with a diameter of 31.8 mm and a 25° backsweep, which allows for a comfortable riding position. The grips are ergonomically shaped and feature an integrated clamp. The adjustable stem (Satori UP2+) offers additional height adjustment options, made possible by the ‘All Up’ system.

The rims are DDM-1 and the tyres are Schwalbe Big Ben Performance, size 55-507, with RaceGuard puncture protection. The front and rear hubs are by Shimano, with a quick-release mechanism on the front wheel and a freewheel on the rear wheel.

The saddle is a Selle Royal LookIn Relaxed model, mounted on a Kalloy aluminium seatpost. Plastic mudguards (SKS B60) and a chain guard (Horn Catena 18) provide additional protection against dirt and wet conditions. A Standwell kickstand ensures the bike stands securely, whilst an ABUS battery lock with a Plus cylinder provides security.

The luggage rack is an i-Rack system rack with a spring-loaded flap, offering versatile transport options. The Futura Compact F8 is powered by a third-generation Bosch Active Plus motor with an output of 250 watts and a torque of 50 Nm. The battery has a capacity of 500 Wh and is controlled via a Bosch Intuvia display. A Bosch 2A charger is also included.

With a reach of 420 mm and a stack of 623 mm, the Hercules Futura Compact F8 offers balanced geometry that ensures both comfort and efficiency whilst riding. Overall, this model is a well-thought-out choice for the urban cyclist who values quality and functionality.
