GIANT Fathom 2

The "Fathom 2" model from GIANT, released in 2022, is a versatile mountain bike available for €1,399. It features a robust AluxX SL frame with a 12x148mm axle spacing, offering sufficient space for tyres up to 2.5" wide. The frame is designed to accommodate a maximum chainring size of 32T.

The bike is fitted with Tektro HD-M275 brakes, which use 180mm discs at the front and rear and are operated by Tektro HD-M275 brake levers. The drivetrain consists of a Shimano Deore M5120 Shadow+ 10-speed system, controlled via Shimano Deore M4100 shifters. The GIANT Crest 34 RCL fork, with 130 mm of travel and Boost 15x110 mm, ensures optimum suspension performance.

Pedals are not included, giving the buyer the option to choose their preferred pedals. The bottom bracket is a Praxis Pressfit, and the crankset consists of a Praxis Cadet M24 with a 30T chainring and a chainline of 55 mm (for 27.5" wheels, the chainline is 52 mm). The cassette is a Shimano Deore M4100 with an 11–46T range, and the drivetrain uses a KMC X-10 chain.

The Fathom 2’s handlebars are GIANT Contact TR35 with a 20 mm rise and a width of 780 mm, whilst the grips are GIANT Sole-O. The stem is a GIANT Contact SL 35 with a length of 40 mm. The rims are GIANT AM 29 Tubeless Ready with an internal width of 30 mm, and the tyres are Maxxis Minion DHF 2.5WT at the front and Maxxis Aggressor 2.5WT at the rear, both with 60 TPI, EXO and TR specifications. The bike is supplied tubeless-ready.

The hubs are RD02F at the front and ED260-R at the rear, and the spokes are by Sapim. The saddle is a GIANT Romero, mounted on a GIANT Contact Switch Vario seatpost with a diameter of 30.9 mm and varying drop lengths depending on frame size (S–M: 125 mm, L: 150 mm, XL: 170 mm).

The Fathom 2’s geometry features a reach of 445 mm, a stack of 622 mm, a seat tube length of 430 mm, a top tube length of 612 mm, a head tube angle of 66 degrees and a seat tube angle of 75 degrees. The head tube length is 95 mm, the chainstay length 435 mm, the bottom bracket drop 60 mm and the fork offset 44 mm. The top tube height is 745 mm, the crank length is 170 mm and the overall wheelbase is 1174 mm.

The 2022 GIANT Fathom 2 thus offers a balanced combination of stability, comfort and performance for versatile off-road use.
