GIANT Defy Advanced 1

The "Defy Advanced 1" model from GIANT, released in 2022, offers an impressive combination of advanced technology and high-quality components at a price of 2,899 EUR. The bike’s frame is made from Advanced Carbon and features a maximum tyre clearance of 35 mm as well as a 12x142 mm thru-axle, ensuring an optimal balance between stability and lightness.

For braking performance, the Defy Advanced 1 is fitted with Shimano Ultegra HRD disc brakes, with a diameter of 160 mm at the front and 140 mm at the rear. The brake levers are also from the Shimano Ultegra range, ensuring precise and reliable braking control. The gear system is another highlight of this model: The Shimano Ultegra RX810 11-speed groupset and Shimano Ultegra shifters (2-speed) enable precise and rapid gear changes. The front derailleur is also a Shimano Ultegra, which complements the entire drivetrain seamlessly.

The fork is made from Advanced full carbon with an OD1 steerer tube and a 12x100 mm thru-axle, which further enhances riding stability. The bottom bracket is a Shimano PressFit, whilst the crankset consists of a Shimano RS510 with 50/34T chainrings. The cassette is a Shimano Ultegra with an 11–34T range, and the drivetrain is completed by a KMC X11EL-1 chain.

The bike’s cockpit features a GIANT Contact SL D-Fuse handlebar, 420 mm wide, and GIANT Stratus Lite 3.0 grips. The stem is a GIANT Contact SL, 100 mm long. The rims are GIANT P-R2 Disc, which are tubeless-ready, as are the GIANT Gavia Fondo 1 tyres in size 700x32c with a TPI of 60. These tyres are supplied tubeless, which reduces weight and minimises rolling resistance.

The hubs and spokes are also GIANT P-R2 Disc, offering consistent and durable performance. The saddle is a GIANT Approach, mounted on a GIANT Contact SL D-Fuse seatpost, which provides additional comfort.

The geometry of the Defy Advanced 1 has been carefully designed: it has a reach of 377 mm and a stack of 567 mm. The seat tube length is 480 mm, whilst the top tube length is 545 mm. The head tube angle is 73 degrees and the seat tube angle is 74 degrees. Other key dimensions include a head tube length of 160 mm, a chainstay length of 420 mm, a bottom bracket drop of 75 mm, a fork offset of 50 mm, a top tube height of 786 mm, a crank length of 173 mm and a wheelbase of 998 mm.
