Focus MARES 9.7

The MARES 9.7 model from Focus, released in 2020, is a high-quality cyclocross bike that stands out for its well-thought-out design and high-performance specifications. Priced at €2,599, it offers an attractive combination of advanced technology and solid build quality. The frame is made of carbon and features RAT Evo technology as well as a 142x12 mm thru-axle. These features ensure high stability and stiffness, whilst the internal brake and gear cable routing provides a clean look and protection from the elements.

The bike’s total weight is 8 kg, making it a lightweight and agile companion. The fork is also made of carbon and features the same RAT Evo technology as the frame. It has a 100x12 mm thru-axle and supports internal brake cable routing. The SRAM Apex hydraulic disc brakes, with 160 mm rotors at the front and rear, ensure reliable braking performance in a wide range of conditions.

The MARES 9.7’s drivetrain is based on the SRAM Apex 1 crankset with a 42-tooth chainring and is complemented by the SRAM PG-1130 cassette and the SRAM PC-1130 chain. These components offer efficient power transfer and robust performance. The aluminium handlebars from BBB Basic have a 125 mm drop and a 70 mm reach, enabling a comfortable riding position. The grips are fitted with Focus Bartape SL, which provides additional comfort.

The stem, also made of aluminium by BBB Basic, has a diameter of 31.8 mm and an angle of +/- 7 degrees, enabling precise steering. The tyres are the Vittoria Terreno Mix and Vittoria Terreno Dry, both in size 700 x 33C, which provide excellent traction on a variety of surfaces. The wheelset is 28-inch, contributing to an optimal balance between speed and control.

The MARES 9.7 is fitted with the Prologo Scratch saddle, which is designed for comfort on long rides. The seatpost is a BBB Deluxe aluminium model with a diameter of 27.2 mm, a length of 350 mm and a set-back of 20 mm, offering the rider additional adjustment options.
