Focus JAM² SL 8.7

The "JAM² SL 8.7" model from Focus, released in 2023, is a high-quality e-mountain bike priced at 6,299 EUR, placing it in the mid-to-high price range. The frame is made of carbon and utilises F.O.L.D. GEN3 kinematics with 150 mm of travel, ensuring excellent riding dynamics and shock absorption. The internal cable routing and the post mount for 180 mm brakes highlight the well-thought-out design. The maximum load capacity is 135 kg, indicating a robust build.

The braking system is fitted with SRAM GUIDE T brakes and levers, complemented by 200 mm brake discs at both the front and rear, ensuring reliable braking performance. The drivetrain is a 12-speed SRAM NX Eagle system, controlled via the SRAM SX Eagle shifters, and offers a wide range of gears for various types of terrain. The drivetrain also utilises SRAM SX Eagle components.

The DVO Diamant E3 fork, with 160 mm of travel, and the Rock Shox Deluxe Select+ shock absorber ensure excellent suspension performance on challenging trails. The fork has a 44 mm offset, which contributes to stability and steering precision. The pedals are fitted with reflectors, as is typical for MTBs, whilst the crankset is a Samox EC40 ISIS.

The bike is fitted with RaceFace AR30 Offset rims and Maxxis Minion DHF tyres, which are renowned for their durability and traction. The hubs are from Novatec, with a D041 hub at the front and a D462 hub at the rear. The aluminium handlebars are 800 mm wide, with a 30 mm rise and a 9° backsweep, which promotes a comfortable and controlled riding position.

The JAM² SL 8.7’s motor is from Fazua; the Ride 60 model delivers a maximum torque of 60 Nm and a power output of 450 W. The integrated Li-ion battery has a capacity of 420 Wh, providing sufficient power for extended rides. The Fazua LED Hub + Ring Control Display provides all the necessary information whilst riding.

The bike’s geometry is designed for a sporty riding style, with a reach of 515 mm, a stack of 650 mm and a head tube angle of 65 degrees. The seat tube angle is 76 degrees, which enables an efficient pedalling position. Other dimensions, such as the top tube length of 672 mm, the chainstay length of 440 mm and the wheelbase of 1295 mm, contribute to the bike’s stability and manoeuvrability. The fi’zi:k Taiga saddle and the Post Moderne dropper post round off the spec, offering comfort and adaptability on the trail.
