Focus ATLAS 8.8

The "ATLAS 8.8" model from Focus, released in 2024, is a state-of-the-art bicycle priced at €3,699, placing it in the upper mid-range category. The bike’s frame is made of high-quality carbon, which not only helps to reduce weight but also ensures increased stiffness. With a total weight of just 9 kg, the ATLAS 8.8 is a lightweight in its category and offers agile and dynamic handling. The maximum load capacity is 120 kg, guaranteeing solid load-bearing capability.

The bike is equipped with a Shimano GRX groupset, which is used for both the brakes and the gears. The brakes consist of Shimano GRX ST-RX810 + BR-RX810 components and, with 160 mm brake discs at the front and rear, offer reliable stopping power. The 12-speed drivetrain, featuring a Shimano GRX RD-RX820 rear derailleur and Shimano GRX ST-RX800 shift levers, ensures precise gear changes and a wide gear range, reflected in a 11-36T.

The ATLAS 8.8’s fork is also made of carbon and features a 110x12 mm thru-axle mount as well as internal brake cable routing. These features contribute to aerodynamic efficiency and a clean look. The DT Swiss GR1600 wheelset and WTB Riddler tyres in size 700 x 45C promise durability and excellent traction on various surfaces.

The handlebar, an Easton EC70 AX made of carbon, offers an ergonomic hand position with a 125 mm drop and an 80 mm reach. The integrated Focus C.I.S. 2.0 aluminium stem is fitted with a Garmin/Wahoo mount and has a length of 80 mm. The fi'zi:k Taiga saddle and the BBB FlyPost SP-135 carbon seatpost round off the comfortable riding experience.

In terms of geometry, the ATLAS 8.8 offers a reach of 370 mm and a stack of 569 mm, enabling a balanced riding position. With a wheelbase of 1016 mm and a head tube angle of 71 degrees, a stable ride is guaranteed, whilst the seat tube angle of 74 degrees ensures efficient pedalling. The chainstay length is 425 mm, which contributes to the bike’s agility. Overall, the ATLAS 8.8 is a well-designed, high-performance model that is suitable for both ambitious tours and everyday use.
