Cannondale Scalpel LAB71

The 2024 Cannondale Scalpel LAB71 is a state-of-the-art mountain bike designed specifically for demanding riders who prioritise performance and precision. With a price tag of EUR 11,999, it belongs to the top class of mountain bikes and offers a host of impressive technical specifications.

The frame of the Scalpel LAB71 is made of Lab71 Edition Hi-MOD carbon and offers 100 mm of suspension travel. It is equipped with Proportional Response Tuned technology, which enables optimum adjustment to different body sizes. The FlexPivot Chainstay provides additional flexibility and stability. The frame has a PF30-83 bottom bracket, a tapered head tube and a Speed Release 12 mm thru axle.

For the brakes, Cannondale relies on the SRAM Level Ultimate hydraulic disc brake system with 180/160 mm CentreLine rotors. The brake levers also come from SRAM and offer precise control in all riding situations. The drivetrain is the advanced SRAM XX-SL Eagle AXS T-Type system with 12 gears, controlled via the SRAM AXS T-Type Ultimate Pod Controller.

The fork of the Scalpel LAB71 is the Lefty Ocho Carbon 120 with 110 mm travel, equipped with the Chamber Damper and a remote lockout. It features the OppO Spring System and a tapered steerer tube with 50 mm offset. The shock is the Fox Float SL Factory EVOL SV, Kashima-coated, with special tuning and a remote lockout, which offers 120 mm of travel.

The bottom bracket is a SRAM DUB PF30 MTB83, while the crankset consists of the SRAM XX-SL Eagle T-Type and uses a 34-tooth chainring. The sprocket is a SRAM XX T-Type EAGLE AXS with a gear ratio of 10-52 teeth for the 12-speed drivetrain.

The handlebar is a Cannondale 1 Flat made of carbon with a width of 760 mm and a backsweep of 9 degrees. The grips are made of Cannondale XC silicone. The stem is made of 7075 aluminium, has an angle of 7 degrees and fits a 31.8 mm handlebar diameter. The headset uses integrated, sealed bearings and is tapered.

The rims are HollowGram XC-SL 27 made from super-light hi-impact carbon with an inner width of 27 mm and 28 spoke holes. They are tubeless ready. The tyres are Maxxis Rekon Race WT 29x2.4" with EXO Protection at the front and Maxxis Aspen WT 29x2.4" at the rear, also with EXO Protection and tubeless ready.

The hubs are from HollowGram Lefty 60 at the front and HollowGram at the rear with DT Swiss 240 EXP Star Ratchet Internals, both with a 12x148 mm thru axle. The spokes are DT Swiss Competition Race, straight pull.

The saddle is the Prologo Dimension NDR with Tirox rails, and the seatpost is Cannondale C1 Carbon, measuring 31.6 x 400 mm.
