Every DIY workshop has a screwdriver botch-up. Super Dan, the saviour of all amateur mechanics, is here to help. This time he shows how to silence squeaky brakes.

It's not just us bikers whose hair stands on end when the disc brakes screech on the descent as if an ancient steam locomotive is approaching. Many a hiker also jumps into the bushes in horror at the bloodcurdling noise. So there are good reasons to silence squealing brakes. One cause of the noise can be glazed brake pads: The noise then builds up via vibrations and the resonance chamber of the frame.

Before you change the brake pads, you can try to solve the problem with a small piece of sandpaper: simply remove the top layer - done. However, the problem is often caused by uneven brake pistons. In this episode, our workshop hero shows you how to make them smooth again. Doesn't help? For hopeless cases, we still have Dan's super trick.

1. the so-called brake caliper reset is simple in itself, you don't even have to remove the wheel. However, you will need a helper. The first step is to press the brake disc firmly against the brake pad on one side and hold it in this position. This requires some force, so gloves are advisable.
