Pressure, heat and abrasion from the disc and pad can cause the brake pads of MTB disc brakes to vitrify, the abrasion is caked onto the brake pads. The surface becomes hard and the brake squeals.
Rub the brake pads a few times over a piece of 120 grit sandpaper. The sandpaper should lie on a flat, hard surface. This will ensure that the pad is rubbed down evenly. The pad will be as good as new once the dark abrasion residue has disappeared.
