CONCLUSIONS: Shimano brakes enjoy the status of a carefree product in the trade. Screw them on and enjoy. The new XT, which retails for an attractive €180, is also aiming for this status. Problems with a permanently wandering pressure point on test bikes (BIKE 2/16) cloud this picture. We were curious. But there was no change in the pressure point on our test brake. Instead, the XT impressed us with good braking power, top ergonomics and modulation. However, from a rider weight of 85 kilos, the brake disc can melt under extreme loads.
BIKE judgement² VERY GOOD
Hysteresis loop: red = dry braking, blue = wet braking, the horizontal axis shows the manual force, the vertical axis the braking force in Newtons.
The score for braking force and stability is based on the laboratory and practical results.
The price is for one front brake.
²The BIKE judgement is independent of price. It is not an addition of the individual ratings.
BIKE judgements: super, very good, good, satisfactory, with weaknesses, unsatisfactory.
