New brake family from Avid
For the 2012 model year, Avid is presenting two new members of the well-known disc brake family, the Elixir 9 and the Elixir 7, which replace the Elixir CR and R models respectively.

The new Avid Elixir 9 and Elixir 7 all-round disc brakes boast visual and technical enhancements. New model name, new look, tool-free lever width adjustment, modified bleeding concept and application areas from cross-country to freeride are just the most important features of the new brakes from the SRAM Group.

New brake discs are also being introduced that differ in size and design from the previous Avid discs. The brand's own brake disc diameters give way to the quasi-standard sizes of 140, 160, 180 and 200 millimetres and ensure greater compatibility with corresponding adapters. The modified design is intended to bring improvements in heat resistance and wet braking behaviour.

The changes apply to all Avid brakes from April 2011.

Sebastian Brust was born in 1979 and was originally socialised on his grandmother's folding bike, but has mainly been riding studded tyres since his fifth birthday. Loves all kinds of bikes - and merging with nature. Believes that disc brakes are much safer today than they were 15 years ago and thinks he has helped with his brake and pad tests. However, the trained vehicle technology engineer very much regrets that the bicycle industry is orientating itself on what he considers to be the wrong ideals of the car industry. At BIKE, he corrects, produces and organises digital content on the website.
