CONCLUSION: It is the affordable brother of the MT7 and costs just €151. When we compared its weight with a current MT7, we were quite astonished. Only 0.9 grams (!) separate the two. So what's the difference? When it comes to braking power, the MT5 boasts a similar amount of power and is also stable even with heavy riders without any defects. There are differences in the details: the MT5 does not have individual pads, has a 10 per cent lower gear ratio and a larger retraction on the master piston, which should prevent grinding. The MT7 lever, which has a larger surface area, has a better grip.

Hysteresis loop: red = dry braking, blue = wet braking, the horizontal axis shows the manual force, the vertical axis the braking force in Newtons.
The score for braking force and stability is based on the laboratory and practical results.
The price is for one front brake.
²The BIKE judgement is independent of price. It is not an addition of the individual ratings.
BIKE judgements: super, very good, good, satisfactory, with weaknesses, unsatisfactory.
