The triumph of the disc brake seems unstoppable. However, weight tuners and beginners in particular swear by the old V-brake. How to position the brakes.

These tips for mechanics will help you maintain the V-brakes on your mountain bike. We show you how to get old V-brakes going again, change the pads and check the wear on the rim.

1. grip position and grip width An ergonomic grip saves a lot of strength. Especially on long descents, your hands tire more slowly if the grip width is correct. Almost all V-brakes have an adjustment screw for this. Use an Allen key (size 2/2.5 or 3) to turn the screw until the lever is just before the middle finger joint.
