Endurance test: Shimano SLX-M brakes
Shimano's bread-and-butter SLX groupset has made a name for itself with its excellent shifting function. The brakes are also almost indistinguishable from an XT in terms of modulation, braking power and stability.

In all-mountain use, mainly on Lake Garda, it always withstood the loads with the 203/180 millimetre disc combination - system weight biker/bike: 105 kilograms. However, the large disc in combination with a Schwalbe Fat Albert tyre (2.4 inch) tends to vibrate and often rings. A small drawback in view of the performance. A bigger problem: the seized brake piston! After around 1500 kilometres, this had to be repaired at great expense.

CONCLUSIONThe seemingly grey mouse among the brakes convinces with good performance, but requires regular maintenance!
