Suffering, doubting, triumphing: The BIKE Transalp is one of the toughest endurance tests in the MTB scene. And at the same time one of the best experiences you can have as a mountain biker.
When the race celebrated its premiere in 1998, nobody could have imagined what a boom the race across the Alps would trigger. Almost 500 bikers battled their way across the Alps in the first edition. In teams of two, for safety reasons. Just a few years later, it was almost more difficult to reach the start line than the finish line. The run on places was so great that there were long waiting lists. Inspired by the original, stage races with unmistakable BIKE Transalp DNA sprang up all over the world. Cape Epic, South Africa. BC Bike Race, Canada. Brazil Ride, Brazil. La Leyenda, Colombia. Titan Desert, Morocco. 4 Islands, Croatia. Andalucia Bike Race, Spain. Mongolia Bike Challenge. The list could go on forever.
The BIKE Transalp has icon status. It is considered the mother of all major MTB stage races and fascinates professionals and amateur riders alike. This year's event starts on 3 July in Lienz/Austria and leads in seven stages to Riva on Lake Garda, where the big finish will be celebrated on 9 July. A week-long concentration of experiences that should not be missed. Whether solo category or team of two. But the desire to take part is often mixed with agonising questions: Can you even do it? How do you prepare? How do you organise your training when you have a busy job and family? Which bike is best? How do you organise overnight accommodation? What do you eat during a stage? And how do you avoid stress with your team partner?
BIKE editor-in-chief Henri Lesewitz will answer all these questions in a webinar, because he knows the BIKE Transalp like no other. Henri took part in the first edition in 1998, has been there countless times since then and will be at the start again this year.
The Webinar will take place on 16 March from 7 to 9 p.m. and is free of charge.
