Lienz - Riva: The Transalp route 2022
Everything is included in the BIKE Transalp route for 2022: legendary stage locations, two 100-kilometre stages, new super trails and tough Dolomite passes. The whole thing is packed into 566 kilometres from Lienz to Lake Garda.

The 24th Maxxis BIKE Transalp is not just a new edition. The legendary MTB stage race across the Alps combines regions, passes and trails from scratch again in 2022 and winds its way through the Eastern Alps in seven stages in an S-shape - very different from the 23 previous editions. For the first time, the BIKE Transalp will start in East Tyrol and stay there for a whole day between Lienz and Sillian. Bruneck as a completely new stage location opens up the opportunity to include Kronplatz, a summit long conquered by bikers but never before by the Transalp starting field. "Even after 24 years of the BIKE Transalp, I'm delighted to be able to conjure up a route that doesn't resemble the 23 previous stages at all," explains race director Marc Schneider. "This shows how many possibilities the Alps offer mountain bikers. In addition, there are always new offers in the trail network, such as the trails in Lienz or at Kronplatz. This makes it possible to plan a completely new route, even with already familiar stage locations, if you really mix it up." The combination with nearby St. Vigil, one of the most frequent stage towns in the BIKE Transalp historyleaves plenty of scope for new routes and leads into the heart of the Dolomites. St. Vigil itself has always been approached from the Eisack Valley, usually from Brixen. In 2022, the route will go the other way round, from San Vigilio to Valle Isarco. The BIKE Transalp has also often travelled to Kaltern and San Martino di Castrozza. However, they have never been combined with a stage before. This means that next year's route will be unrivalled in the history of the Transalp. Many things are new and unpredictable - and no two stages are the same, not even the seven sections from Lienz in East Tyrol to Riva del Garda are similar.
