With the Mega XL, Lezyne is sending its largest computer to date into the race for GPS supremacy. The highlight of the brand new device: it can also be ridden in landscape format in panorama mode.

The data is displayed even more clearly on the 2.7-inch display, which is already perfectly legible and very bright even without lighting. The stylish Mega XL connects to smartphones, sensors and power meters via Ant+ and Bluetooth, and a Shimano Di2 can also be paired in this way. The computer is conveniently set up using the comprehensive and clearly designed Alley V2 app. Surprisingly, the location must be activated on the mobile phone in order to connect. However, the device is then found quickly and reliably, and five data pages with up to ten fields can be personalised.

The device itself is controlled via four buttons with a firm pressure point. The menu has a pleasingly logical structure. Unfortunately, the function of the buttons only partially changes with the panorama mode. This makes operation more difficult. Offline navigation is finally possible with the Mega series. For this purpose, map sections can simply be dragged onto the device memory via the online portal. The Mega XL then seamlessly combines several sections into one large map. Even without a mobile phone connection, you can plan routes, search for POIs or find your way home. Turn-offs are indicated at an early stage by various arrows. Strava Premium members are of course also informed about live segments.

If you use the full range of functions, the Mega XL does not achieve the specified 48 hours, but still has a respectable runtime of a good 16 hours. In view of the huge range of functions, Lezyne has put together a GPS package with the new Mega XL that can easily keep up with much more expensive devices on the market.

For technical descents, he is prepared to tackle almost any ascent - under his own steam. As an accessories specialist, he is the first port of call for questions about equipment and add-on parts, while as head of copywriting he sweeps the language crumbs from the pages of the BIKE print editions.
