Garmin website out of service
According to news reports, Garmin appears to have been affected by a hacker attack. The support area and online shop are out of service.

Anyone who currently wants to share their Garmin tour online or buy a new Garmin navigation device is facing a problem. As of this morning, the website garmin.com and the online tool Garmin Connect are out of service.

If you want to access one of Garmin's internet services, you are shown a static page stating that they are out of service due to maintenance work. Even the telephone, e-mail and chat systems are no longer functional.

Apparently there is reason to believe that GPS and wearable specialist Garmin has been attacked by hackers at its production sites in Taiwan. Several online news reports (z. e.g. here) quote a Article from the Taiwanese website iThomein which an attack with ransomware is suspected as the cause. Even the production lines at Garmin have been shut down.

Garmin is currently in lockdown, so nothing is working for the time being. The consequences for Garmin Connect users are currently unclear. It is possible that data stored in the Garmin Cloud could be lost if it has actually been encrypted by cyber criminals. If the recovery fails, most of the data will be lost, according to the Computer magazine Netzwelt on its website. BIKE keeps you up to date...

Sebastian Brust was born in 1979 and was originally socialised on his grandmother's folding bike, but has mainly been riding studded tyres since his fifth birthday. Loves all kinds of bikes - and merging with nature. Believes that disc brakes are much safer today than they were 15 years ago and thinks he has helped with his brake and pad tests. However, the trained vehicle technology engineer very much regrets that the bicycle industry is orientating itself on what he considers to be the wrong ideals of the car industry. At BIKE, he corrects, produces and organises digital content on the website.
