What good is the best planned route if the battery doesn't last to the end? Garmin promises to put an end to this with the "Power" version of its new Edge Explore 2. The bike computer specially designed for e-bikes is docked to the bike's battery with the appropriate cables (sold separately) and a holder (Edge Power Mount). This supplies it with the corresponding on-board data. Together with the map data, the route is adjusted if necessary so that you don't have to cycle home with a flat battery. The latest update of the Edge bike sat navs has been around for a while, Garmin recently presented its new Top GPS device Edge 1040 before.
The Edge Explore also has 2 power charging pins that enable charging directly on the e-bike battery (via Power Mount) or the separate Charge Power Pack. In conjunction with Shimano Steps or ANT+ technology, the new Garmin Edge Explore also shows a special e-bike status page with data fields on its display.
E-bike riders will certainly also be interested in the theft detection feature of the new Edge Explore. With an alarm that can only be cancelled with a PIN and sends notifications to a paired smartphone if the bike is moved without permission.
And if you are involved in an accident, the Garmin device sends a message to specified emergency contacts - provided your smartphone is paired. Additional safety is also provided by the option of pairing with a Garmin Varia bike radar.
Tacx is now also part of Garmin. It therefore makes sense to network the devices with each other. The Edge Explore 2 Power therefore also offers the option of pairing it with a Tacx indoor trainer (e.g. Neo 2T Smart) and recording the training data in the bike computer and analysing it in the Garmin Connect app, for example.
