For the "Power" version of the Edge Explore 2, Garmin promises the Networking of bike, battery and bike computer. This is docked to the e-bike with the appropriate cables (available separately) and a bracket (Edge Power Mount). This allows the bike sat nav from Garmin to obtain the relevant on-board data. Together with the map data, the new Edge Explore adjusts the route if necessary so that nobody has to end their trip with an empty battery.
The Power Variant of the Edge Explore also has 2 charging pins. This allows the device to be powered directly from the bike battery (via Power Mount) or via the separate Charge Power Pack. If you have Shimano Steps or ANT+ technology on board, the new Garmin Edge Explore displays a special e-bike status page with data fields such as charge level, mode and range.
Another interesting feature of the Edge Explore 2 is certainly the theft detection. An alarm, which can only be switched off with a PIN, and notifications to a paired smartphone alert you if the bike moves unexpectedly.
And in the event of an accident, the Garmin sat nav sends a message to pre-defined emergency contacts. Coupling with a Garmin Varia bike radar also provides additional safety.
Tacx is now also part of Garmin. The devices can therefore be networked with each other. The Edge Explore 2 Power has this option and can be paired with a Tacx indoor trainer. This means that the indoor training data can also be recorded on the outdoor sat nav so that it can be used in the Garmin Connect app, for example.
