The capacitive touchscreen of the Garmin Orgon 600 is easy to use in dry conditions. Recognition suffers in heavy rain and larger drops of water can affect functions. Overall, the touchscreen display is the best currently available in the outdoor GPS sector.
Customisation for different activities is done via profiles in the menu instead of swiping the start page. Operation is easy to learn and offers a familiar smartphone user interface with a configurable icon start screen and pull-out drawer.
Unfortunately, the Oregon is delivered virtually naked. In addition to a bike mount, a routable map must be obtained before the first bike tour. Either invest money in the Garmin Topo or fill a memory card with a free OSM map. Both will increase the already high price even further.
Tip: The 600 is the best choice in the Oregon family. The camera (650/650t) cannot keep up with those of modern smartphones and the leisure map of the "t models" is not worth the extra cost.
