The update for the Edge GPS computer from Garmin has a number of new features: Thanks to optimised, high-contrast maps, the display and map should now be easier to see when navigating on roads, gravel paths or alpine MTB trails - regardless of the lighting conditions. The latest Garmin update also offers improvements when planning bike tours. If you are looking for inspiration for your next ride or are travelling in busy hotspots, you can use the Trendline-Popularity Heatmap which is based on millions of uploaded journey data from the community. The heat map then displays the most popular (and best) routes on the map on the computer. These are colour-coded depending on how much data has been uploaded in the relevant region. In addition, the map layout and the displayed map section (auto-zoom) automatically adapt to the selected activity profile (e.g. road bike or mountain bike).
At the same time, Edge users will wait less time for route calculation with the new update. Once a route has been calculated, it is automatically saved in the GPS device's cache and can be called up directly before the next journey. This should significantly reduce waiting times, for example for longer routes planned with the "Round Trip Routing" function.
Garmin users can use their Edge computer automatically via WLAN, the Garmin Connect app or with the help of the Garmin Express software update. Garmin also recommends updating the maps stored on the Edge with Garmin Express to obtain the latest routing data.
