Protective equipment should not be taken lightly when biking. That's why Vaude took its time to bring the first protector backpack for mountain bikers onto the market. At its presentation at the Eurobike trade fair, the Moab Pro at least made a well thought-out impression.
With Ortema, Vaude has found an experienced partner for its back protector. It was important to the Tettnang-based company not to simply launch a rucksack with an inserted back plate onto the market. The rucksack is based on the protector and integrates it into the back system. This means that the protector sits more or less directly on the back. There is only a thin padding in between, which should provide the necessary comfort when biking. The protector plate is made up of three layers, is multi-impact capable and covers a significantly larger area of the back than required by TÜV. The Vaude Moab Pro is available in two different back lengths, M and L, and the extra-wide hip belt can also be adjusted three times in height. This means that almost everyone should be able to fit the rucksack to their body.
The rest of the Moab Pro is just as well thought out as the protector unit. The Innsbruck vertriders had a decisive say in its development. A special tool compartment was particularly important to the extreme bikers. This is located at the bottom of the rucksack, can be folded down and not only contains various compartments for tools, first aid tubes or repair kit, but also a nice gimmick in the form of a slot for cable ties. The tool compartment also makes it very easy to transport pads. Other extras include a holder for different types of helmet, a separate pump compartment and a large drawer at the front.
Despite its extensive features, the Vaude Moab Pro in size M is said to weigh just 1470 grams. Two men's versions and a women's version are available from 180 euros.
