ION Scrub: Backpack with compartment for e-bike battery in check
Specialised e-mountain bike accessories are becoming increasingly popular in the shops. The Scrub 16 backpack from Ion has been with us for a long time. Now we know what it can and can't do.

The selection of specific backpacks for e-mountain bikers is growing and growing. That's a good thing! Because anyone who wants to take a spare battery with them will benefit from the securely strapped energy carrier, which only sits securely in the integrated battery compartment. With Ion, the battery holder is quite simple. Push the battery in, done. No lashing, no fastening. If the battery fits well, such as an external 500 Wh Shimano battery, it sits neatly in the rucksack. As I said, provided the battery fits perfectly in the compartment. Unfortunately, the battery holder in the Scrub 16 cannot be adjusted to different energy sources. So prospective buyers should definitely take their own battery with them and try it out. Good: Without the battery, the battery compartment is hardly bulky.

Apart from that, the Scrub 16 offers plenty of storage space and practical compartments. The main compartment can be divided into two sections, the lower one being separately accessible. We found the packing volume to be much more spacious than the 16 litres in the product name would suggest. Definitely enough for full day trips. Too bad: If a battery is in the backpack, it blocks the space for the hydration bladder. This then has to make do with the main compartment. A rain cover and a tool folder are included, while goggles can be stored in the padded top compartment. A protector is permanently integrated into the back section, which is great for enduro excursions. Ventilation is good thanks to localised padding on the back. Even a large smartphone fits easily into the compartment on the lap belt.
