Riesel Design Kids:Tape

When children discover something exciting on the road, it usually has to happen quickly: Drop the bike and run off - there's no time to lean the bike against the tree so it's safe from scratches. The frames of children's bikes are designed accordingly. The protective stickers from Riesel Design provide a little protection and a good dose of style. The sets are available in various designs and for different frame sizes. They consist of up to 43 modular shapes for the top tube, down tube, rear triangle and fork. The stickers with the cheeky designs are very easy to apply without water or tools and can be removed without leaving any residue. The stickers are also UV-resistant and do not yellow. This turns every children's bike into a very individual eye-catcher.

The Stealth Marathon rubber and the legendary Dotty profile ensure optimum grip on the pedals and long durability. The Five Tens not only cut a fine figure on the trail, but are also a great companion for the pump track, on the way to school or when romping around with friends. The Velcro fastening makes it easy to put on and eliminates the need to tie laces. The upper is made of robust synthetic leather. The Freerider is suitable for young bikers from size 28 upwards.

Fist Pineapple Glove - Youth

Fist has some pretty cool glove designs in its programme, especially for kids. They offer protection and a coolness factor in equal measurePhoto: FistFist has some pretty cool glove designs in its programme, especially for kids. They offer protection and a coolness factor in equal measure
How do you like this article?

Kids get scrapes often enough as it is. They don't need to get their fingers banged up while biking. The casual long-fingered gloves from Fist have been an absolute hit with the editorial team for a few years now. We've already had some with donuts, ice cream and planet designs, but the cheering pineapples will definitely be the next model. The gloves can be adjusted to the kids' small wrists using the Velcro fastener. The thin Clarino leather on the inside guarantees a direct grip and secure hold. The touchscreen fingers are a nice gimmick, but on the trail, kids aren't interested in Insta and the like, they just want to shred!

SDG Slater JR Grip / Slater Handlebar

Alongside the pedals, the grips are the most important interface with the bike. They need to be grippy, comfortable and, above all, thin enough for small children's hands to grip them securely. With the Slater JR, SDG has developed a grip that measures just 25 to 26 millimetres in diameter - ideal for children's hands. The Slaters are clamped on the inside, which means there is plenty of room for gripping on the outside. There are six colours in total, so there should be something to suit every taste.

With an outer diameter of 19 millimetres, the Slater Handlebar fits perfectly with the slim SDG gripsPhoto: SDGWith an outer diameter of 19 millimetres, the Slater Handlebar fits perfectly with the slim SDG grips

Due to its low thickness, the inner diameter of the Slater JR is only 19 millimetres, which makes a special handlebar necessary. But SDG also has this in its programme. The Slater handlebar is 650 millimetres wide and tapers to 19 millimetres at the outer ends. The 22.2 shim kits are required to attach the shift and brake levers. With a decent width and a rise of 20 millimetres, the Slater offers full control for your first off-road adventures. But the handlebars are also an ideal choice for advanced kids.

Sun protection is at least as important for children as it is for us adults. But protection from low-flying insects, dust crumbs and mud splashes is also essential for their first attempts on the trail. It's great that the German helmet and goggle manufacturer Cratoni not only thinks about the grown-ups, but also about the little ones and has a lightweight (22 grams) and robust sunglasses for kids in its programme. And because reason is certainly not the deciding factor in the choice of glasses for kids, the C-Ice is available in six stylish colours with mirrored lenses for a really fair 34.95 euros.

So down with the boring black plastic pedals and up with the gaudy pedals made of fibreglass-reinforced plastic. The PI Resin pedals weigh just over 200 grams per pair. Six plastic pins hold the feet securely on the pedals, while reflectors increase visibility in road traffic. The Early Rider pedals are best suited to bikes with wheel sizes 14 and 16 inches.

At some point, the day comes - usually much earlier than expected - when the offspring stand in the doorway and explain with a sympathetic look: not daddy today. Then the little ones set off on their own with their friends. Building camps, shredding trails or hanging out on the pump track around the corner. And because hunger pangs are always quick to strike, parents should never forget to pack a few snacks. The Waldfuchs from Deuter is perfect for such excursions. It is available in two versions with a volume of 10 or 14 litres and for heights from 98 to 130 cm, depending on the provisions required. The robust companion also offers enough space for a carving knife, mud trousers and all the treasures that the little ones pick up along the way.

Zéfal Bike Taxi

No more moaning on the climb: with the tow rope from Zéfal, the dream of many parents becomes reality!Photo: ZéfalNo more moaning on the climb: with the tow rope from Zéfal, the dream of many parents becomes reality!

This practical tow rope is definitely something that benefits both children and adults. It makes it easier for the kids to get to the next trail entrance and saves parents from annoying nagging. What's more, the "oldsters" get fitter when they take a few watts of pedalling power away from their offspring. The Bike Taxi is secured under the saddle using a simple tensioning strap. The loop of the tow rope is simply placed over the stem of the towed bike and off you go. Once at the top, the kids can unhook themselves from the lift - pretty practical.

And because there are now a whole host of such systems on the market, we naturally don't want to withhold the alternatives from you. You can find a test of various tow ropes in this article.

Children want one thing above all: fun and even more fun. Whether in the bike park, on the trails or the pump track. Because safety is crucial, Abus provides the right helmet for every occasion with the YouDrop FF. At less than 450 grams, it is light enough not to strain the kids' neck muscles. The chin guard provides optimum protection in an emergency. From personal experience, children particularly like to fall head first! For safer adventures, the bar can also be removed at the touch of a button. This transforms the Abus YouDrop ff into a lightweight open-face helmet. Clever: The visor is attached with Velcro and simply flies off in the event of a fall. It would be nice to have a magnetic fastener that even small bikers can operate reliably. The one-size-fits-all 48-55 fits easily up to teenage age.
