Already on the At IAA Mobility 2021 in Munich, Evoc caused a stir with the Commute A.I.R. Pro 18 backpack with integrated airbag technology. Evoc has since added further commuter backpacks to its Commuting series. A series sales launch is planned from summer 2022.

Doubly secured: the Commute A.I.R. Pro 18 airbag backpack

In the Commute A.I.R Pro 18 backpack, Evoc has installed an airbag in addition to a back protector for the first time. This is designed to provide the best possible protection not only for the spine, but also for the neck, shoulder, collarbone and chest areas in the event of a fall. The airbag system was developed in cooperation with Minerva-AS GmbH specifically for use in bicycle backpacks for everyday commuting to work, training centres or leisure activities.

How the airbag works in the rucksack

The system is activated and deactivated by closing an electric magnetic buckle on the chest strap, which was developed in collaboration with Fidlock. The USB-chargeable sensor system analyses the position and orientation of the rucksack up to 1,100 times per second. When the defined triggering conditions are reached, for example a fall, the airbag inflates in just 0.2 seconds and unfolds its full protective effect. This should reduce the force and braking acceleration acting on the person falling by up to 80 per cent.

The system is triggered mechanically by the explosion of an electric igniter. Once the airbag has been triggered and checked for damage, the system can be used again with a new cartridge.

The main compartment of the backpack with a volume of 22 litres can be opened wide and provides quick access to the contents. The 3D moulded back section is designed to ensure optimum ventilation and maximum comfort on the back. Reflective prints increase visibility and therefore safety in road traffic. Price: 230 euros.

The Evoc Commute Pro 22 also features a back protector for additional protection in urban traffic. In the event of a fall with visible damage, it will be replaced free of charge.

Duffle backpacks

The Duffle Backpacks, which originally came from Evoc's Travel collection, are also suitable for everyday cycling. The waterproof backpacks are available with a volume of 16 and 26 litres. The PVC-free outer material keeps out rain showers and the volume of the main compartment adjusts to the amount of contents thanks to the variable aluminium hook fastener on the lid. Laptop, mobile phone and keys can be accessed via side pockets on the back. The duffle backpacks are available in grey, black and curry. Price: 140 Euro >> available at Bergfreunde.
