How we used to make fun of the tanned musclemen with their neon-coloured belly bags in the 90s. I wonder what they had in there? Tanning cream? Or a testosterone injection for in between? Never mind. Now I'm standing on the trail myself and digging my mini-tool out of the little bag hanging on my hip in front of me. Not so daft, these hip packs, I think and push the item back onto my back with a little momentum.
From above, you have a pretty good view of the sparse contents of the bag. Instead of stuffing my rucksack with all kinds of stuff, I limited myself to the essentials for today's after-work ride: Tools, inner tube, pump, a litre to drink, bars, mobile phone and a light windbreaker. There's hardly any room for more in the small hip bag. But that's all you need. Even on a day tour, you can manage with this equipment. And instead of drowning in my own juices, the wind now blows pleasantly around my back and there are no straps pressing on my shoulders.
