Balloon tyres absorb bumps with ease, allow a lower tyre pressure due to the larger air volume and are still largely safe from punctures and "snakebite" plates. And large wheel circumferences roll more smoothly. So basically a good idea: more comfort and operational safety thanks to uncomplicated technology at the price of a slightly higher weight.
But simply fitting wide tyres is not enough. The frame has to be adapted for larger tyres. This is why Corratec has developed a rigid fork with a greater overall height and increased the chainstay length to an incredible 46.8 centimetres. Typical lengths here are around 43 centimetres. The other frame dimensions have also been adjusted. This results in a balanced frame geometry with stable straight-line characteristics.
