The Riese & Müller Tinker2 Vario is a solid compact pedelec that is particularly characterised by its handling and comfort. The continuously variable Enviolo hub gears also make it low-maintenance.

Shifting gears with the Enviolo hub: instead of hopping over gear steps, you "glide" through the gearing. With a twist of the handlebar grip, you always have the right gear ratio for you, which in turn fits perfectly with the Riese & Müller Tinker2. The self-developed handlebar dome allows a flat, elongated riding position as well as sitting upright with the handlebars set backwards. The Spinner suspension fork and the Byschulz suspension support provide the highest level of suspension comfort in the test.

Getting on the bike is less comfortable than on the other bikes: The classic compact frames are better at getting on low. Hardly anything needs to be said about the recognised harmonious operation of the Performance Line drive from Bosch's Smart system. So you press the switch button on the system's handlebar controls and set off. Of all the test bikes, the Tinker runs most like a classic touring bike.

If you take a closer look at the frame, you will realise that the Darmstadt-based company continues to work cleanly and reliably and that the frame is not only visually appealing. Among other things, it allows the use of a belt drive without a frame opening, which makes the bike with Enviolo even more low-maintenance.

In addition to the cargo box (accessory), large panniers also fit on the pannier rack, making the bike a tourer with a system weight of 135 kilos. The Riese & Müller Tinker2 is particularly small also: The handlebar dome can be folded back up to the top tube. However, it can also be positioned sideways at lightning speed.

With customer registration, there is a five-year warranty in the event of frame breakage, as well as a two-year battery warranty. We didn't like the awkward removal of the battery - if you can, charge it on the bike.

Conclusion on the Riese & Müller Tinker2 Vario compact e-bike in the test

Small to transport, big on handling and comfort. The Tinker is a model compact bike. Great riding fun and utility form a harmonious whole in high quality - and the Enviolo rounds it off perfectly. - Georg Bleicher, test editor
