The recumbent bike manufacturer HP Velotechnik is opening its doors to the public on Saturday, 6 September 2025. Between 10 am and 4 pm, interested parties will have the opportunity to take a look behind the scenes of the speciality bike manufacturer at Kapellenstraße 49 in Kriftel and test the complete range of models. A special highlight of the day will be the presentation by bikepacker Carlo Krampe, who has been riding his all-terrain trike since 2022. Scorpion Enduro fs 26 on the road. Krampe, who switched from a classic bike to a recumbent bike due to back problems, reports on his experiences in mixed groups with gravel and mountain bikes in his presentation "Trike-Packing with Scorpion".

Factory tours with the company founder

Experience has shown that the factory tours with Paul Hollants are particularly popular with visitors to the Open Day. The Managing Director, who founded the manufactory together with Daniel Pulvermüller in 1993, gives personal insights into the creation of the special bikes twice a day. The tours start at 10.30 a.m. and 1.30 p.m. and show the entire production process, from the initial design on the computer to the assembly and dispatch of the finished bikes. The tour also includes a visit to the in-house photo studio, where the 19 different models are staged for marketing purposes. Participation in the factory tours is free of charge, but HP Velotechnik asks that you register via the company website so that the groups can be optimally planned.

Test drives with the complete model range

Another highlight of the day is the opportunity to test ride the entire HP Velotechnik range. All 19 models will be available for test rides, including a handbike used by the successful cyclist Kristina Vogel. Following her accident, the double Olympic champion and 17-time world champion is travelling with a specially adapted handbike from HP Velotechnik. It is necessary to check in directly on site for the test rides. Anyone wishing to try out one of the fast S-Pedelecs with pedal assistance up to 45 km/h must also bring a valid driving licence, ID and a bicycle helmet. The test rides take place on a specially equipped course that simulates various riding situations and thus gives a realistic impression of the riding characteristics.

Lecture and supporting programme

Carlo Krampe's presentation offers valuable insights for anyone who doesn't want to miss out on cycling adventures despite physical limitations. Krampe has been travelling with his Scorpion fs 26 Enduro since 2022, after his back increasingly caused problems on longer tours on a conventional bike. In his experience report "Trike packing with Scorpion", he explains how well the mixed group harmonises with different types of bike and which adaptations are useful for longer tours with the recumbent bike. The exact time of the presentation will be announced on the HP Velotechnik website.

For bargain hunters, the "bicycle parts flea market" offers the opportunity to purchase selected components at favourable prices. The parts on offer are produced by HP Velotechnik and include various components for recumbent and chair bikes. While the adults are busy with technology, children can take part in a special painting and handicraft programme. There will also be a crêpes stand offering both sweet and savoury treats. Non-alcoholic cold drinks will be provided free of charge, although the organisers ask that you bring your own cups if possible for environmental reasons.

ADFC coding stand on site

As an additional service, HP Velotechnik has invited the ADFC Main-Taunus, which will be on site with its coding machine. Visitors will have the opportunity to have their bikes coded for a fee, which will make it easier to identify the rightful owner in the event of theft. The prerequisite for coding is that proof of purchase for the bike and an identity card can be presented. Anyone who joins the ADFC on the open day will even receive the coding free of charge. In addition to this benefit, membership of the Allgemeiner Deutscher Fahrrad-Club also offers a range of other services such as breakdown assistance and legal advice on all aspects of cycling.
