The Precede:ON is available in the Carbon version already part of Canyon's e-bike portfolio since 2020. It is designed for everyday journeys of all kinds in urban areas: shopping, picnic trips, commuting to work and much more are possible with it and can make everyday life easier. The bike manufacturer from Koblenz has now expanded its range to include a more affordable aluminium version. This should also appeal to those for whom over 4000 euros is too expensive. The new aluminium e-city bike is available from 2599 euros. We were able to take a look at this e-city performance bike before its release.
The design of the aluminium version of the Precede:ON is based on the carbon bike. The clear lines and striking silhouette were taken up and taken into account in the development of the aluminium models. As with the carbon version, the Procede:ON AL also offers a choice between high and low step-through models.
At first glance, we noticed the high weld seams. Why were they placed there? MYBIKE received the following answer from the Koblenz-based company: "The seat tube should be moulded to the maximum from the bracket. This also minimises the many weld seams that are typically found in the bottom bracket area on e-bikes."
Canyon's e-bike for the city is ready for all kinds of everyday tasks. You can attach your own panniers or special designer baskets to the rear carrier. This allows up to 25 kilos of luggage to be transported. The bike can be optionally extended with a front pannier rack, which has a load capacity of five kilograms. Parents will love the adapter that can be used to tow a trailer. This is available separately in the Canyon online shop.
Canyon has equipped the pedelec with mudguards and a lighting system, with an additional high beam function from the Procede:ON 6 upwards. The e-bike battery supplies the lighting system with power, and the battery system is programmed to retain reserves for two hours of lighting operation. This ensures visibility and visibility even for spontaneous journeys in the dark.
The bike comes with 57 millimetre wide Schwalbe G-One all-round tyres, which offer comfort even on bumpy roads thanks to their width. Ergon ergonomic grips are also fitted for greater riding comfort.
Canyon installed Bosch Performance Line and Active Line Plus motors:
The small sizes XS to M are equipped with the 500Wh Bosch Powertube battery, the range is specified as up to 100 kilometres, depending of course on various factors such as terrain and system weight. The larger frames, sizes L to XL, fit larger batteries. Canyon has taken advantage of this and equipped them with Powertube batteries, which have a capacity of 625 Wh. Their range is specified as up to 125 kilometres.
The connection for charging the battery is built into the frame. The bike can therefore be connected directly to the charging cable or the battery can be removed for charging. A full charge of the 500 Wh battery takes around six hours.
Precede:ON AL 5, 6 and 7 are equipped with different components. If you want to spend as little time and energy as possible on bike maintenance, opt for the version with Enviolo hub gears and Gates belt drive. If you prefer the classic combination of chain and derailleur, choose the Precede:ON 5 or 6; a chainring in combination with a large cassette ensures a wide range of gear ratios.
All models are equipped with hydraulic disc brakes from Shimano or Magura, so they brake reliably even with luggage or a trailer.
Procede:ON AL 5
The cheapest model is equipped with derailleur gears and a Bosch Active Line Plus motor. Sizes XS to M are equipped with a 500 Wh battery and are available for 2599 euros. Sizes L to XL come with a 625 Wh battery and are therefore more expensive and can be ordered for 2799 euros.
Procede:ON AL 6
We continue with the Precede:ON 6: derailleur gears, Performance Line Bosch motor and high beam. The small sizes cost 2999 euros, the large frame sizes with the larger battery capacity 3199 euros.
Procede:ON AL 7
The city e-bike with Gates belt drive and Enviolo gear hub costs 3499 euros (XS to M) and 3699 euros (L to XL).

A comparatively short seat length and only moderate handlebar rise result in a sporty riding position. This suits the Precede:ON well, the bike is lively and agile. With a Gates belt instead of a chain and an Enviolo gear hub, it is equipped with high-quality, low-maintenance components. We'll be testing the new Canyon Precede:ON in detail in a future issue of MYBIKE.
