Crossover fullys or SUVs are the stars of the bike shop. With their e-MTB-derived frame and technically sophisticated rear swing arm as well as wide knobby tyres, they can handle almost any surface. The full-suspension chassis of these touring pedelecs leave rough forest and field paths cold. On tarmac, the dual-suspension tourers roll extremely comfortably. However, the full suspension with rear swing arm and telescopic fork requires regular maintenance. This makes the bikes somewhat heavier and also more expensive than comparably equipped touring pedelecs without rear shock absorbers. Even if the bikes allow safe rides on easy terrain, they do not come close to the dynamics of E-MTBs.
Whether you're just going on a micro-adventure or travelling for several days or even weeks - touring pedelecs have to be perfectly suited to the rider. Eating up kilometres means sitting in the saddle for a few hours a day. The riding position should be somewhere between sporty and upright. It is also important that there is not too much weight on the wrists. It goes without saying that the bikes need sturdy and stable carriers for heavy luggage. Brakes, gears and drivetrain must be stable, low-maintenance and reliable. Nothing is more frustrating than a major defect far from any workshop. Test riding is a must before buying a touring pedelec!
