At the heart of the Aeroad CF SLX 7 Di2 is the latest fourth-generation CF-SLX frame. In the TOUR test of the Aeroad CF SLX 8 Di2 The bike impressed with its outstanding aerodynamics. With an aerodynamic drag power of just 204 watts at 45 km/h, the Aeroad performed on a par with significantly more expensive professional-grade bikes and was practically on a level with the top-of-the-range Aeroad CFR model.
The frame construction also made a strong impression. According to Canyon, the CF-SLX version differs from the CFR frame primarily in terms of a slightly different carbon lay-up structure and a marginally higher weight, without any significant compromise in stiffness. On the road, the Aeroad consequently offers a distinctly direct and efficient ride. The balanced geometry also ensures that the bike is not aimed exclusively at professionals. Despite its clear aero focus, the riding position remains sporty without being excessively extreme. In our test of the CF SLX 8 Di2, the Aeroad impressed with precise, agile steering and, overall, very balanced handling.
Conclusion on the Canyon Aeroad CF SLX 7 Di2
The Canyon Aeroad CF SLX 7 Di2 stands out above all for having one of the most aerodynamically efficient frames on the market. Its handling characteristics are likely to be very similar to those of the CF SLX 8 Di2, which we have already tested: nimble handling, high stiffness, excellent aerodynamic performance and a surprisingly comfortable riding position.
Adjustable cockpit
A key difference compared to the previous third-generation Aeroad lies in the cockpit. The new PACE cockpit allows for adjustments to width and height without having to disconnect the brake lines or shorten the steerer tube. The handlebar width can be adjusted by up to 50 millimetres, whilst several grip positions are also available. This means Canyon offers significantly more flexibility than many current aero road bikes with fully fixed cockpit set-ups.
Added to this are practical, detailed solutions such as the standardised TX25 screw standard, high-quality bearing seals and the so-called ‘Gear Groove’ for integrating computer mounts or other accessories. We have already highlighted these features positively in the TOUR test of the CF SLX 8 Di2.
Shimano components
Whilst the frame and cockpit are largely identical to those of the CF SLX 8 Di2 we tested, Canyon has opted for the Shimano 105 Di2 electronic groupset on the CF SLX 7 Di2. The 12-speed groupset is technologically closely related to the Ultegra and Dura-Ace and utilises their electronic shifting logic. Compared to the Ultegra groupset on the CF SLX 8, it is slightly heavier, but in practice offers similarly precise shifting performance.
Particularly pleasing: Canyon fits a 4iiii power metre as standard. In this price range, that’s by no means a given, and it significantly enhances the Aeroad’s training value. Even the Predecessor scored highly with its built-in power metre.
Carbon wheels
The wheelset is also worth noting. The Aeroad CF SLX 7 Di2 is fitted with DT Swiss ARC 1600 carbon wheels with a rim height of 65 millimetres. In doing so, Canyon remains true to its philosophy of equipping even comparatively affordable aero models with deep-section carbon wheels.
The previous model already impressed with its combination of an aerodynamic frame and DT Swiss wheelset. In testing, it was precisely this synergy that was highlighted as a key factor in its strong aerodynamic performance. However, even back then, the ARC 1600 wheels weren’t among the lightest in their class. Those who ride mainly in the mountains will find lighter complete bikes elsewhere. For fast flat-country and track riding, however, the spec suits the Aeroad’s character perfectly.
Not an uncompromisingly tough racing machine
Despite its pronounced aerodynamic focus, the Aeroad is not one of those uncompromisingly stiff racing bikes. We had already praised the surprisingly good comfort of the previous model, which was due, amongst other things, to the high-quality tyres. The current model comes with 26 or 28-millimetre tyres, but offers tyre clearance of up to 32 millimetres, which allows you to further adjust the ride comfort. The redesigned seatpost clamp is also designed to make adjustment easier and to improve ease of maintenance and suitability for everyday use.

Our assessment
The Canyon Aeroad CF SLX 7 Di2 stands out above all for having one of the most aerodynamically efficient frames on the market. Its ride characteristics are likely to be very similar to those of the CF SLX 8 Di2, which we have already tested: agile handling, high stiffness, excellent aerodynamic performance and a surprisingly comfortable riding position.
When it comes to spec, Canyon has opted for sensible cost-saving measures. The Shimano 105 Di2 is fitted instead of the more expensive Ultegra, and the DT Swiss ARC 1600 wheels are slightly heavier than high-end alternatives; however, carbon wheels and a power metre are still included as standard. At €4,799, the Aeroad CF SLX 7 Di2 therefore offers an exceptionally attractive overall package and is likely to once again rank among the most interesting aero road bikes in its price range.
