The Swiss bicycle brand BMC is expanding its range with a new customisation option. With the VAR0 platform, cyclists can design their dream bike according to their own ideas. It all starts with the top-of-the-range Teammachine R 01 road bike model, which is now available as a blank canvas for creative designs. The VAR0 frame and the corresponding fork are based on the regular Teammachine R 01 model. They have the same aerodynamic tube profiles and stiffness values as the standard version. The decisive difference lies in the surface treatment: VAR0 comes with a minimal clear coat that leaves the natural carbon structure visible.
According to the manufacturer, the thin protective layer fulfils two functions: It protects the carbon material and at the same time forms the ideal basis for a customised paint job. BMC explains that only minimal preparation is required to then customise the frame to your own taste. Those who prefer the purist look can also ride the VAR0 frame with the desired components directly after assembly. The reduced paintwork is also said to offer the lightest cosmetic finish of all BMC frames.
Although BMC itself does not offer painting services, the company supports customers with customisation. Design files for customising the BMC logo elements will be available via the BMC dealer network. The manufacturer has also announced that pre-cut BMC sticker sets will soon be available via slikgraphics.com. According to the manufacturer, the BMC frame warranty remains valid even with customised designs, as long as all legally required stickers such as the UCI sticker are retained. However, the warranty does not extend to the customised paintwork itself. For the presentation of VAR0, BMC has engaged the artist Juliane Borths BMC, who has designed a frame. Juliane is probably better known to many as I draw on bikes. She has already painted many a bike.
The Teammachine R 01 VAR0 is now available in all sizes from 47 to 61 centimetres. BMC has announced that further model platforms will follow as VAR0 variants in the future. For customers looking for the lightest possible bike, BMC refers to the Teammachine R Mpc. as an alternative. According to the manufacturer, this model uses a special manufacturing process to offer the lightest and stiffest performance frame ever built by BMC.
